Landmark Air Canberra Guide: How Efficient is Gas Ducted Heating?

A gas ducted heating system has several advantages, including being environmentally friendly and cost-effective. It can heat the whole house or just a single room.

All around your home, you’ll find outlets built in the floor or ceiling connected to a central heating unit by wires. The air input is located at ground level to maintain a constant temperature throughout the space.

Because they heat quickly, transmit heat quickly from one location to another, and then reheat returning air, gas ducted forced air systems are very energy efficient.

The cost of electricity is growing faster than that of natural gas in most places. Thus it is a viable alternative for heating. Areas like a dining room, which is rarely used but needs regular warmth, might have their heating system built into it.

You may save money on your power cost by using these areas. Gas ducted systems only utilize energy when the temperature in your home falls below your desired level.

How Much Does it Cost?

For gas heaters used 6 hours a day for 12 weeks, a consumer group called CHOICE has calculated how much they cost to run. That’s about how long Winter lasts. There was a gas rate of 3 cents per megajoule (c/MJ). These were $212.50, $300, and $412.50.

These are good ballpark figures, but you can figure out how much gas your system will use to heat your home.

Gas heaters will usually say how much energy they use in kWh. You can easily determine how many MJ this is by multiplying the kWh value by 3.6.

If you want to move on to the next step, you’ll need your most recent gas bill or the average prices in your state. Find out how much gas you pay now or how many gas costs on average and multiply this by the MJ value. This is how much it costs to run your ducted gas heater for one hour each day.

To figure out how much it costs to run your ducted gas heater over a year, figure out how many hours you use the heater each day and how many days you use it in the winter.

You’ll also have to think about the cost of electricity to run some parts of your gas heater.

To figure out how much money it will cost to run, you can compare the energy efficiency of duct gas systems with their energy rating. The star rating lets you quickly compare different gas systems and choose the one that will be the most cost-effective for your home and its needs, so you can save money.
